ABOUT
The SENSE POLAND event organizers, in association with distinguished Polish cultural institutions and supporting partners, have set out to present Polish life and culture in 2019 in the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in New York. This presentation follows in the footsteps of the pre-war tradition of promoting Poland and its economic potential through its cultural achievements – as it was done during the World Exhibitions in Paris (1937) and New York (1939).
When it comes to freedom and historical truth, Poland owes a great deal to American Men: President T W Wilson used to describe himself as “a Pole at heart”, and was a close a friend of a great Polish artist and the first Prime Minister of an independent Poland of 1918 – Ignacy Jan Paderewski.
The event aims to enable you to gain a taste of Poland by exploring its culture. The organizers chose to focus on a few selected themes: art of the nation’s life, culture, music and culinary arts.
The multimedia SENSE POLAND exhibition presents extraordinary photos and films from the archives of Royal Castle in Warsaw, Royal Łazienki Museum, Castles in Krasiczyn and Baranów, Museum in Nieborów and Arkadia and Majolica Ceramic Workshop as well as the National Heritage Board of Poland. The photos used in the outdoor exhibition “Poland – minutes before World War II” are taken from National Digital Archives, Poland.
A piano recital by Steinway ambassador in Poland – Maestro Aleksander Dębicz, an International Paderewski Piano Competition laureate, will include pieces by Paderewski, Chopin and Komeda – a composer best known for his long cooperation with Roman Polański.
